Dumai, November 23, 2024 – Students from the Department of Agricultural Technology at Riau University conducted an industrial visit to Wilmar Group Dumai-Pelintung, located in the Dumai Industrial Estate. This activity aims to provide students with direct insight into the operations of the palm oil industry, including the Crude Palm Oil (CPO) production process and refinery.
The visit began with a welcome reception in the Illies Room, where Mr. Simon Panjaitan, as Business Unit Head of Wilmar Group Dumai-Pelintung, extended his warm welcome to all participants. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of synergy between education and industry in preparing the younger generation to face global challenges.
“We strongly support this activity as part of Wilmar’s commitment in supporting education and human resource development, especially in the field of agricultural technology,” said Mr. Simon Panjaitan.
The event continued with remarks from representatives of Riau University lecturers, a video profile of Wilmar Dumai Industrial Estate, and material presentation by Wilmar professionals. Mr. Suyatno Wira, Asst Mill Manager, explained the CPO production process in detail, followed by Mr. Abner Sinaga, Ref & Fract Dept Head, who explained the refinery process flow. This session provided students with an in-depth insight into industrial practices relevant to their field of study.
Students also had the opportunity to ask questions directly to the speakers in an interactive question and answer session. This activity was closed with the handover of souvenirs from both parties, group photos, and lunch together.
According to one of the participating students, this visit was very useful:
“We gained a lot of new knowledge about the production and operational processes in the palm oil industry. This is very relevant to the subjects we study,” said one of the students.
Through this activity, it is hoped that the relationship between Riau University and Wilmar Group will strengthen, opening up further collaboration opportunities to support the development of education and industry.
